John Gallagher is an award-winning filmmaker based in New York City. His latest movie as producer-director
is the improvisational feature romantic comedy
CUPIDITY, which premiered as the closing night film at the
New York Independent Film and Video Festival, winning the prize for Audience Award: Best Feature Film, as
well as Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
CUPIDITY won the Best Actor award at the Queens Film Festival,
and was an official selection at the Oldenburg Film Festival in Germany.
CUPIDITY opens in theatres in the
fall of 2005.
TIMELESS, a short film John wrote and directed while editing
CUPIDITY, won Best Film and Best Actress at the NYC
Home Film Festival. Most recently, John directed the TV pilot ACTING CLASS
for producer Ron Shetler.
John wrote and directed the feature romantic fable
BLUE MOON, released theatrically through Castle Hill. It is
available on video and DVD from Wellspring Video, and airs regularly on Showtime and The Movie Channel.
BLUE MOON
stars Ben Gazzara, Rita Moreno, Alanna Ubach and Brian Vincent, with Zach Braff, Heather Matarazzo, Vincent Pastore,
Burt Young, Lillo Brancato, Victor Argo, and David Thornton. The movie won Best American Feature at the Avignon/New
York Film Festival, and Best Fantasy Film at Worldfest Houston.
John also directed and co-wrote the cult comedy THE
THE DELI (Castle Hill), with a cast including Mike Starr,
Matt Keeslar, Gretchen Mol, Ice T, Heather Matarazzo, Brian Vincent, Judith Malina, Debi Mazar,
Michael Imperioli, Iman, David Johansen, Burt Young, Chris Noth, Heavy D, Michael Badalucco,
Vincent Pastore and Tony Sirico.
THE DELI won the Spirit of Independents Award at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival,
and was cited for Excellence in Filmmaking by the National Board of Review.
